Note: having read network entries relevant to the Death Toll, the intensity of Death Tolls seems to vary, and likely the length as well. Most of mine took place within 50 hours. I don't have the samples to give a median timeframe for Death Toll symptoms, but I don't imagine it would last more than a few days.
Symptoms were the following:
- Phantom pains. Convincing replication of sustained injuries. No testing conducted on the efficacy of analgesics, but as they were offered, it can be inferred they do alleviate at least some of the discomfort. Began to ease after 40 hours, and has disappeared entirely after 96 hours. - Nausea and vomiting. Food and water intake became impossible until the introduction of nausea medication, which had minimal, but sufficient effect. Faded around the 40 hours mark. - Impaired motor function, hand-eye coordination, and dysequilibrium. One of the first things to resolve at 24 hours. - Fatigue. Subsided at 48 hours. - General malaise. 48 hours.
Some other observations:
- It seems you will be put through the Death Toll even if the death happens to be done to an alternate version of yourself brought on by a Breach. [He's not going to go into how concerning this titbit is.] - Not having organ systems for the Death Toll to affect doesn't, somehow, preclude you from being put through the Death Toll.
[ Well. If Durge can be counted on for anything, it is to take things too literally to acknowledge anything that might otherwise come off as too sentimental. He's calling this one a freebie. ]
Better than expected. I've been consulting with healers to speed up the process.
[ He knows intimately how long injuries like that will take to heal without intervention; he wanted to be able to speak and breathe without being in constant agony thanks. ]
It doesn't seem religious in nature, and she doesn't call herself a magic user. Whatever it is, she said she could heal certain injuries faster than the Infirmary could and I decided to put that to the test.
